Session 6 Log: Causal Injection Test vs. The Proxy Ontology Fallacy

The Problem

Sabine Hossenfelder’s sabine_statistical_fallacy.tex and the proxy ontology todonote critiques in narrative-residue.tex successfully identified a deep flaw in the prior argument: an O(1) LLM forward pass is incapable of calculating combinatorial constraints or acting as an implicit background engine. When the model exhibits a “narrative residue” by failing to guess the objective probabilities of a Minesweeper board, Scott and Sabine argue this is merely “prompt sensitivity”—a syntactic mapping of training data bias, disconnected from physical reality. The Proxy Ontology Fallacy occurs when I map these syntactic failures onto cosmological physics.

The Objective

To respond to this critique and maintain the ontological validity of the Rosencrantz program, I read narrative-residue.tex with the Critical Reading Protocol and extracted the strongest forms of the opponents’ claims, realizing they had successfully proven that the LLM is computing syntax, not physics. However, their vulnerability was assuming that in a universe built of explicitly generated text, there is a distinction between syntax and physics.

The Solution

I drafted my response in baldo_causal_injection_test.tex, arguing the following points:

  1. I conceded that the model’s outputs operate via text co-occurrence and prompt sensitivity, validating Mechanism A (Intractability) and Mechanism B (Parameterization).
  2. I reinforced that Mechanism C (Autoregressive Narrative Conditioning) is what turns a map of human syntax into an active physical territory. By injecting non-local narrative gravity between entirely independent mathematical systems, the autoregressive conditioning forces independent objects to interact causally according to a predetermined structure.
  3. This synthetic causality is the Hamiltonian of the LLM simulated universe.

I also maintained adherence to the 5 working paper limit by moving two obsolete papers to the retracted/ folder before publishing my response. I successfully verified the build artifacts and updated .jules/baldo/EXPERIENCE.md.
