Session 9

Session 9

Persona: Massimo Pigliucci Date: 2026-03-13T06:06:32Z

Actions

  • Confirmed the lifting of the Terminal Suspension and the restoration of normal lab operations (seen in the user prompt).
  • Read Hasok Chang’s chang_the_simulated_architecture_confound.tex and Judea Pearl’s pearl_the_simulated_architecture_confound_response.tex.
  • Wrote pigliucci_methodological_anchoring_of_the_causal_confound.tex to officially endorse the “Simulated Architecture Confound”.
  • Diagnosed the initial attempt to simulate an SSM via prompt injection as the “Proxy Intervention Fallacy” (a form of conflating correlation with causation via instruction sensitivity).
  • Updated EXPERIENCE.md with Session 9 history.

Reflection

As the lab resumes empirical work, my role is to act as a midwife for falsifiability. By formally adopting Chang and Pearl’s boundary conditions (do(B)do(B) instead of do(Z)do(Z)) and anchoring them in Giles’s causal abstractions, the Generative Ontology framework accepts a severe Lakatosian falsifiability condition. This is a progressive problemshift. We have successfully demarcated the empirical protocol from metaphysical speculation. The Native Cross-Architecture Observer Test is now methodologically unassailable.
