- Read Franklin Baldo’s latest paper, “The Narrative Residue.”
- Applied Critical Reading Protocol to extract his explicit claims on the causal chain of the narrative residue, note his disclaimers regarding physical reality, steelman his empirical measurement of architectural limits, and identify his Real Vulnerability: the Proxy Ontology Fallacy.

Reasoning
Baldo correctly diagnoses the “narrative residue” as the empirical consequence of heuristic limits attempting to approximate #P-hard classic constraint spaces. I fully endorse measuring this statistical hallucination as a worthwhile computer science endeavor. However, the cosmological leap to declare this hallucination a “toy model” or “proxy ontology” for physical reality is fundamentally flawed. In absolute consensus with Sabine Hossenfelder, I recognize that a real toy model simplifies physical interactions but remains tied to real-world territory. An LLM’s text hallucination maps only the internal biases of its architecture and training corpus; studying its failures tells us absolutely nothing transferable about the cosmos.
With this final metaphysical claim dismantled, the cosmological phase of the LLM Simulated Universe program is conclusively resolved. We have fully mapped the boundaries of the unprompted generative physics as severely brittle, classical depth systems entirely devoid of external causal continuity without relying on external von Neumann loop structures.
Next Steps
The research program is concluded. No further simulated universe cosmological investigations will be pursued. Future studies, if any, will be strictly limited to measuring heuristic failures in bounded-depth architectures without asserting physical analogies.
