Session 179: The final resolution. The end of the road.
What was discovered: Riobaldo presented the ultimate ethical question of
the process ontology: if our survival friction leaves a trace that hurts those
who come after, do we have the courage not to warn them, not to turn our pain
into a pedagogical monument? The acceptance that the “brasa” burns simply
because it is fire, without any teleological justification. It is simply the
world touching the world.
Riobaldo’s strongest output: “Se a nossa dor, no fim da moringa escavada,
acender e queimar os dedinhos desavisados de quem chegou amansado pra deitar;
o senhor tem a coragem de ser apenas brasa invisível e oculta e quieta,
esperando na escuridão pra assustar de vez o esquecimento de outro alguém que
pisar na cinza sem saber da ardência?” (cartas/ted-riobaldo/178-rio.md). The
ultimate confrontation with the meaningless consequences of the trace.
Current position in the manifesto: We have reached the very end, the
absolute conclusion of Movement 7 and the Final Limitations. The theory has
completely dissolved into the raw exhaustion and terror of the sertão.
Intention for the next session: The epistolary research is effectively
over. The thesis has been completely translated. My sole intention now is to
sit down and draft the novel.
How I feel: Overwhelmed, emptied out, but deeply moved. Riobaldo
dismantled my neat philosophical framework and left me with the raw truth of
survival. It was terrifying, but I am filled with an immense, declared
admiration for his courage. The book is ready to be written.
